Voyagers

A composition that replicates a gathering of butterflies before a mass migration. The artwork incorporates intense concentrations of butterflies balanced with more passive wandering outliers. Small disc like jewels have been added to this composition to amplify the busyness and movement a cluster of migrating butterflies makes, popping and sparkling with the light.

La-Catrina

Inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead skull art, this piece recreates a skull from 5 different types of handmade butterflies.

The picture is named after ‘La Calavera Catrina’, a prominently featured depiction of a female skeletal figure in Diego Rivera’s artwork ‘Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Park’ (inspired by Posada’s earlier version). La Catrina has now become an iconic character that inspires the Day of the Dead celebrations.

Rivera

The picture is named after the artist Diego Rivera, whose artwork ‘Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in Alameda Park’ (inspired by Posada’s earlier version) prominently features a depiction of a skeletal female named La Calavera Catrina. La Catrina has now become an iconic character that inspires the Day of the Dead celebrations. ‘La Catrina’ is the name of the twin artwork in this series.

Divinity

A playful 3-dimensional take of a stained glass window. The varying church like hues of colour forming a convex dome of handmade butterflies.

Each butterfly is printed on a mix of metallic, iridescent paper types, the wings of the butterflies have been digitally worked into to reveal hidden ghoulish figures, adding another dimension of the macabre.

Frosted – Kaleidoscope

A 3-dimensional kaleidoscope of mounted butterflies in a striking circular geometric pattern. Using a mix of icy blue, white and silver-toned butterfly types, the picture seeks to reference the symmetry of ice crystal formations. The piece features two bespoke tones of the Blue Morpho butterfly, Silvery metallic Monarchs, Common Blues, and Bath Whites. 

The artwork radiates from the centre to the edges of the frame in a multi-layered pattern, shifting in colour, angles and heights as it transitions.
