I first came across the work of Edouard Martinet in 2001 – and it immediately struck a chord with me.
Each of his pieces is made from junk: bits of cars, bikes and even jewellery are repurposed into the most exquisitely detailed creatures.
The pieces are lifelike and yet also reference the materials: for instance, logos are worked into the design. He carefully chooses pieces that will fit into his idea, and even more impressive, he does not solder or weld the parts together, but uses screws.
Not surprisingly, this can be time-consuming work. A recent piece took 17 years to complete… which makes his work all the more unique, and inspiring.
If I have piqued your interest, this piece on the fantastic Colossal blog has some impressive close-up images of his work click here.
